We drove up the winding path to Mount John to visit the observatory during the day. The path is open to the public during the day but has controlled access at night. The panoramic view of the southern alps, the lakes and the Mackenzie basin is spectacular. Continue reading

Kea Point Walk on Mount Cook is an easy walk on flat terrains. It’s really more of a leisure walk where you can play with snowman, or have fun planking!
We stayed at Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge for 2 nights. There were other places where we could have based ourselves, such as Lake Tekapo and Twizel (30-40 minutes drive from Mount Cook), but we decided to stay in Mount Cook Village itself for convenience.

Wanaka is a town with plenty of activities to do. Hiking, skiing, cycling, sky-diving, helicopter flights, jet-boating, sailing and more. We stopped at the Blue Pools on our way from Fox Glacier to Wanaka via Haast Pass. The Blue Pools are located at Mount Aspiring National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We did a short walk into the woods going through the silver-beech woods, using a combination of well maintained path, suspension bridge and board-walks. Continue reading
