Kohan Japanese Restaurant, Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.
We were super excited to take our lunch at Kohan Japanese Restaurant, Lake Tekapo, after seeing the kind of environment the alpine salmon are reared at Mount Cook Alpine Salmon Farm. Kohan, or 湖畔, literally means “by the lake” and indeed the the restaurant has ceiling-to-floor windows for superb view of Lake Tekapo.

Tailor-Made-Backpackers @ Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.
Tailor-Made-Backpackers is a well maintained hostel. The double room with en suite bathroom we took was more like motel accommodation rather than a hostel. At only NZD80 per night, I thought was a good steal. Our room is an individual cottage, sort of looks like the one in the picture below but of a smaller size. The picture below is the main building that houses the reception, the kitchen and the common area.

Mount John Observatory @Tekapo, New Zealand
We drove up the winding path to Mount John to visit the observatory during the day. The path is open to the public during the day but has controlled access at night. The panoramic view of the southern alps, the lakes and the Mackenzie basin is spectacular. Continue reading
