The Front Door Cafe occupies the ground floor of the Selangor Grocer’s Guild building that’s at one end of Petaling Street. The beige-colored, three-storey building established in 1931 is a piece of historic jewel that could not have been a better place for a quaint cafe.
Front Door Cafe’s exterior is a blend of modernistic black and rustic furnitures.
The interior is kept simple with a chalkboard wall and raw bricks. The old floor tiles that are typically found in kopitiams are maintained with concrete patches here and there, reminding you that the building is indeed from once upon a time.
Front Door Cafe’s menu is fairly simply, which comes down to pastas, breakfast platters and 15 choices of open faced sandwiches. The open faced sandwiches alone are enough to make you ponder hard for what you should order because they all look so good. One slice is RM 6, set of three slices is RM 18 and set of 5 slices is RM 27. We went for a set of three slices, and that’s the best RM 18 spent for an absolutely delectable brunch.
The sandwiches are all smashingly constructed with a beautiful cohesion of sweetness, savoriness and freshness. Toast #5 is with pesto, grilled chicken and orange slices.
Toast #6 is with melted mozzarella, green apple, crunchy almonds and salted caramel – never thought that this classic dessert combination would go so well on a piece of toast.
Toast #1 is with melted cheddar, beef bacon; while a dash of strawberry slices and a drizzle of honey instantly make this piece of toast too goo to be true.
The Front Door Platter is quite a standard breakfast platter with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and toast (RM 22); I think the open faced sandwiches are far more exciting.
Long Black @ RM 9; water bottles and cups hang conveniently on the wall.
Here is Front Door Cafe’s menu and a few of their open faced sandwiches.
Oh and don’t forget to check out the rear section of the cafe too, for the artsy, whimsical corridor !
