Hotel de la Muette is a charismatic hotel, converted from an old mansion built in the 15th century. The location is ideal and within walking distances to restaurants and many attractions in Arles. The Theatre Antique, the Amphitheater, Cryptoportiques, Espace Van Gough and more.
The hotel is run by Alan, the owner. As you walk in, you will instantly feel the warmth and the personal touches added that is incomparable to the big chain hotels.
Upon check-in, we got our awesome, old-fashioned key and walked through a stone-walled corridor to get to our room on the ground floor.
Useful brochures were displayed along the corridor.
The room (95 euros/ night, inclusive of breakfast for 2) is earth toned with grey bedding, dark brown cupboard, rattan chairs which give it a vintage feel and echoes with the ancient mansion from the 15th century.
The bed is comfortable with the unique bolster pillow.
The room is well equipped with flat screen TV, mini-fridge, safety box and WIFI. The fridge and the safety box are sort of one entity; when you want to use the safety box, ultimately, you gotta open the fridge too.
The bathroom is clean, newly renovated with modern amenities while you could still see remains of wooden planks and stony walls from the original mansion. The shower gel and the soap provided were too little, but were replenished upon request.
We took our daily breakfast at the cozy dining area.
Breakfast is simple and served in lovely Provencal plates with croissant, French bread, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, yogurt, fruit compote, orange juice and coffee.
Paid parking is available in front of the hotel but very very limited. We parked our car at a free parking lot quite a distance away, but we never had to use it during our stay in Arles because the hotel is so close to everything else.
I loved my stay at the hotel. It’s under a two star category, but I think it deserves a 3 star. It can be difficult to find if you are using a GPS, as you will find roads blocked by pylons and only accessible to residents with the access code. The hotel will provide specific instructions of getting there once you book with them- get to Rue Du Quatre Septembre and use the access-code provided to get pass the blocked road (which I totally forgot and spent quite some time looking for the hotel).
