Les Saladelles is both Gary and my favorite meal throughout our 14 day journey in France. It was by luck we ordered this amazing Provencal assortment salad (12.50 euros). We glanced over to the next table, their food looked so gorgeous we just told the waitress – we want the same thing!
We were not disappointed and I can’t put enough pictures of this dish to say how wonderful this dish is. To start with, the platter came in splendid colors.
The golden, buttery clams were well seasoned with parsley.
The roasted red capsicums were amazingly sweet. The black olives were too salty when eaten on their own but Gary discovered a way to even out the taste.
The maroon sausage slices and foie gras were classic, local delicacies.
The potatoes were golden and crisp. The curried cucumbers added an exotic flavor to the dish.
My first instinct was to taste every ingredient on its own. The clams, foie gras, potatoes, sausages and capsicums stood well on their own. The minced olives I thought was too salty on its own while the curried cucumbers was too lightly flavored. I could smell the curry but I could not taste the curry.
Then, halfway through the dish, Gary started putting a little bit of everything on one bite of bread. The amalgamation of taste was PERFECT!!!!! Salty olives, sweet capsicums, creamy foie gras, and the cucumber which I thought had too little curry turned out to be just right- you get the aroma of curry, while the taste of curry does not interfere with the already flavorful mix.
We enjoyed our lovely meal at Restaurant Les Saladelles. While the food took a while to come as it was full house, but by now I was beginning to appreciate “slow”. The food came slower, and we took the time to savor slowly. In fact, we spent the longest time eating this meal – almost three hours! We really loved our Provencal Assortment Salad. It was an unusual yet adventurous mix of texture and flavor, at the same time, presenting local Provencal produce at its best.
