We started our road trip on state highway 73 and saw this nice little cafe after driving 30 minutes west of Christchurch. We stopped for breakfast as we weren’t sure how far the next restaurant would be on SH73.
Gary and I both ordered the “Flavours Feast” with eggs, bacon, baked beans, tomato and toast. I had poached eggs while he had the scrambled eggs. The breakfast was a good generous portion with the poached eggs beautifully done, but I found the bacon too salty for me. The price was reasonable with the breakfast selections under NZD20. The Flavours Feast was NZD 17.
The cafe was warm and cozy. We chose to sit by the fire. Not that it was that cold, but having come from a hot country like Malaysia, never having the chance to use the fire or even see the fire at all, we enjoyed this rare occasion of being able to sit by the fire 🙂
Flavours Vineyard Cafe has a spacious interior which can fit about 45 people. It is quite conveniently located just at the start of SH73. I don’t remember seeing any other restaurants before reaching Arthur’s Pass Village (correct me if I am wrong), so it would be a good place to stop by for breakfast before your journey.
Address: 898 Sandy Knolls Road, West Melton, Selwyn, New Zealand.
(It’s off SH73 /West Coast Road, about 30 minutes drive west of Christchurch).
