We crashed at Good Hope Hotel along Kelawei Road for a night in Penang. we really just needed a place to sleep and go as we arrived Penang late in the evening, and were off the next morning. I am extremely familiar with the area because it’s just across the road from my old house. I used to see the pleasant, warm yellow building every day and always wondered how the rooms were like.
As we entered, the reception was small & tidy, and the receptionist was prepared for our arrival.
After checking in, we passed through a corridor with plants, marble tables and chairs before going upstairs to our room. Would have been a nice place to drink a cup of coffee in the morning.
The room was as expected -clean, basic and lightly decorated with orange tropical elements. The bed was not too bad. Some of the springs in the mattress might have lost the elasticity, but I could sleep well in it.
There was no wardrobe, just a simple rack for hanging your clothes.
The room was slightly stuffy as we went in but we were able to ventilate the room thanks to the window.
The bathroom and the towels provided were clean. The bathroom was well manintained and functional – nothing’s broken or clogged.
Simple bathroom amenities were provided.
My stay at Good Hope Inn was pleasant and value for money (RM110/night). It will fulfill your basic needs if all you really need is a place to sleep and freshen up. It’s conveniently located behind Gurney Drive, where the sea-side is just 2 minutes walk away. Lots of food around the area – there’s Kapitan, Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Subway within 2 minutes walk. Hawker places like Song River and Zealand are about 5- 10 minutes walk away. It is centrally located, with quick access to everywhere – to Batu Ferringhi, to town, Air Itam, and to the airport. Parking can be limited because the hotel itself only has a few parking spaces in the building. There is street parking (need to be paid) available but during the day it can be limited but it should not a problem finding parking during the night.
